'Boys Don't Cry' is based on the true story of Teena Brandon. 21 year old Brandon Tina (played by Hilary Swank) is well loved by everyone who meets him. However, Brandon Tina is actually Teena Brandon, a young woman who hates being a girl, and so disguises herself as a boy and dates girls.

She meets her downfall in Falls City, Nebraska when she befriends John Lotter and Marvin Nissen. She also meets Lana, and falls in love.

However, life takes a tragic twist when Brandon's new friends find out her secret. I won't ruin the end for you, you'll have to see the movie yourself.
